Past, Present, and Future Research

A great amount of research has been done on Lycopene. As scientists are finding out the wide ranging health benefits of this beneficial compount, even more research will be conducted. At present, all research points to the best way to realize the benefits of Lycopene is by consuming processed tomato products like pizza, tomato sauce, and other foods that include a small amount of oil, as Lycopene is fat soluble.

Currently, the only source of Lycopene is by growing those organisms that produce it naturally. However, some scientists are working on synthesizing Lycopene in the lab. If such research culminates in the efficient production of synthetic Lycopene, and it is found to be able to be added to processed tomato products, the world may see processed tomato goods even higher in Lycopene concentration.
